Also known as a ‘bobtail squid’ or ‘stubby squid’, this little round creature is only the size of a thumb. Its short life of 3-10 months is spent mostly alone. During the day it buries itself in the sand to hide from light, electing to come out and hunt at night. It has an enormous brain for its body size, and camouflages itself through its symbiotic relationship with the bioluminescent bacteria in its body. Its cloaking device is so effect that the US Air Force has studied it to improve stealth aircraft designs.
