Park Hyatt Sanya, China

I feel incredibly honoured to have been invited by Park Hyatt in Sanya, China, to exhibit some of my latest works. Located on a private beach in the secluded Sunny Bay, this luxury 5-star resort was designed by renowned architect Jean-Michel Gathy. With an emphasis on art, the hotel has over 1300 pieces of artwork spread throughout the premises. Every day of my stay, I encountered a new work to gaze upon – it was an entirely new experience to me.

This event was a 5-day art salon based around conversations on my work. As well as exhibiting 4 different series of my paintings spanning from 2010 to 2017, I also shared the story of Poly The Turtle with major press journalists of China, and also taught daily DIY beeswax wraps sessions as a way to combat the problem of disposable plastics. Keeping Sunny Bay beach clean was a daily battle for the hotel staff, with cleaners seen out in the sun picking up bags full of rubbish away from the sand. I am hopeful that the message of “say no to plastic” will be spread gradually to the rest of the country.

Infinite gratitude extended towards the team at Yes Art Gallery and the wonderful staff of Park Hyatt Sanya – all of whom have made the memorable 8-day experience incredible.
